Thank you for visiting the counseling practice for Sean Gorman LPC! I understand the importance of finding a therapist that will be a good fit for you or your family member. With that in mind, the following information is intended to make your decision a little easier. People want to be healthy, want to feel better and want to have healthier relationships but have difficulties understanding the blocks to these experiences. Simply put, people do not know where to look!

The skills, strategies and interventions I teach are the same techniques I use in my own life to create a life based in meaning, serenity and contentment.

One of the greatest myths of counseling is that you will never have any negative thoughts or feelings. Learning how to navigate these experiences is an essential skill if you want to live a satisfied life.  I teach people how to navigate difficult emotional experiences by understanding how it is often our reactions to our mood, not the mood itself, which can in turn prolong our suffering.

Work Experience

I have worked as a counselor for over 30 years in a variety of settings including acute inpatient, residential, intensive outpatient and outpatient. I specialize in working with adolescents, young adults, adults and couples. My practice specializes in treating clients with a wide array of issues.

approach

Therapy, at its essence, is a relationship based in trust, connection, and safety, and these elements must be present for the therapeutic process to be successful. Therapy is a learning environment where people can get the help they need and develop tools to feel better, be more successful in relationships and be more successful in personal endeavors. I consider myself a skills based therapist and will teach you the skills and strategies that you can use outside of therapy to better your life. I utilize techniques from:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

  • Mindfulness

  • Three Principles Training

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy

  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy

I will teach you where your experience comes from, and how to access your own innate psychological health and wellbeing. I will teach you how to connect to your optimal state of being, where you can gain insights and awareness into answers to help guide you through life successfully and experience moments of happiness and joy in your life while also learning how to handle life’s challenges.

I work collaboratively with people in determining what approach will most effectively address the problems that bring you to counseling—whether that approach is individual therapy, couples counseling or addictions counseling.
